Kawaii...

Una de las exportaciones más exitosas de Japón es su cultura popular, y en particular; sus juguetes. Por muchos años el país fue conocido por sus juguetes de lata, y posteriormente por sus robots de baterías. La evolución de los juguetes no se detuvo, y en 1976 un personaje llamado "Hello Kitty" con cabeza grande y redonda vino para dominar el mundo. Luego de este tremendo éxito, los jugueteros japoneses olieron el dinero y empezaron a producir más y más personajes similares, con un público local e internacional que parece nunca cansarse de lo mismo. ¿Dónde está la clave? La respuesta es sencilla, si se usa un poco la cabeza. Permítanme mostrarles unos cuantos personajes:

One of Japan's most successful exports is it's pop culture, especially it's toys. This country was long known for it's tin toys, and later for their battery-operated robots. The toy evolution didn't stop there, and in 1976, a character called "Hello Kitty" with it's big and round head came to conquer the world. After this smashing success, Japanese toy makers smelled the money and started churning out more and more similar characters to a local and international crown that seems to never get tired of the same thing. Where is key? The answer is quite simple, if you think a bit about it. Let me show you a few of these "characters":

¿Ya lo vieron? TODOS los personajes son REDONDOS, o sugieren formas redondeadas. La cara, los ojos, las piernas, etc. En realidad, hay una razón para esto, y es simplemente el hecho de que el ser humano se siente atraído instintivamente a las criaturas con apariencia infantil, ya que nos activa ese deseo de protegerlas y cuidarlas.
De manera que cuando la gente compra cualquiera de estos personajes, está siendo vilmente manipulada para que compre, de la misma manera en que se nos manipula cuando nos hacen relacionar el éxito con licor o con cigarros o con una cierta marca de coche.
La cantidad de personajes es tan ridícula, que creo que hasta un personaje hecho por mí tendría éxito. Así que, sin más preámbulo, ¡les presento a mi creación! (que aún no tiene nombre ni sé qué es exactamente pero no importa) ¿qué les parece?

Did you see it? ALL the characters are ROUND, or have round-like shapes. Their faces, eyes, legs, etc. Actually, there is reason for this, and it's the simple fact that humans feel attracted towards creatures with a childish appearance, activating the desire to take care of them, etc.
So, every time someone buys one of these things, they are just being vilely manipulated to buy them, in pretty much the same way we are manipulated to relate success to completely unrelated stuff such as alcohol or tobacco or a particular type of car.
The amount of characters is so ridiculous that I think even a character made by me would be a hit. So, without further ado, I present to you my creation! (It still doesn't have a name and I don't even know what it is yet but who cares...) What do you think?
